Fall is the best time to do your pond and filter cleaning because you can clean the pond of harmful dead plant life. Leaving this in can cause a methane poisoning of your fish from the decay. Also the filter should be cleaned and drained so it is ready to be started for the spring. The UVC light should also be brought in, in the winter, left out can cause moisture inside to freeze and break the bulb and crack the glass tube and the housing. We recommend people to bring it in. Whatever you do, please dont break a hole in the ice, when the pond is frozen, it can shock the fish and cause them death and you can also put a hole in the liner by breaking the ice. You can melt a hole in the ice. Some people use troth heaters for their pond in the winter, to keep a hole in the ice. We also net ponds to keep the leaves and debri from fallen in the pond.
